Vaccination Programme in the Deep South Begins

The vaccination of the 1st dose of the vaccine for youngones between 20 - 30 years as directed by HE the President commenced in the Southern region on Thursday (2) covering general areas of Tangalle, Ambalanthota and Tissamaharamaya to begin with.

As per guidelines given by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), the vaccine stocks given to the troops by the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health were jabbed by Army medical teams under the supervision of Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander Security Forces - Central.

Major General Prasanna Ranawaka, General Officer Commanding, 12 Division of the SFHQ-Central took steps to arrange all facilities for the conduct of those vaccine centres.

Army medical teams, 23 Gajaba Regiment, 3 Sri Lanka National Guard troops and all health workers threw their full weight behind to make the programme a success.

The vaccination programme in the South will continue.
