US General visits Jaffna

Commander, United States Marine Forces Pacific, Lieutenant General Wallace C. Gregson who is in the island on a friendly visit, made a trip down to Jaffna yesterday ( 05) morning with four other US military officers.

The delegation was received at the Palaly airport and accompanied to the Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) where Lt Gen Gregson was accorded a Guard of Honour.

Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna) Major General M.D.S.Chandrapala gave a brief account on the present security situation in the Jaffna peninsula after this high ranking Senior Officer planted a mango sapling at the Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna to mark his visit.

Later, Lt Gen Gregson was awarded a memento by Major General M.D.S.Chandrapala as a token of their cordial meet.

He was then taken to the areas of Muhamalai entry/exit point in 55 Division where its General Officer Commanding, Brigadier V.R.Silva briefed about developments in the area under his Division.

Before leaving the Jaffna peninsula, they toured the Navy northern camp where the Deputy Commander Northern Naval Command, Commodore B.A.J.P.Peiris explained the security situation of the isles where naval troops are deployed.

Mrs. Gregson was also associated in the tour.

Lieutenant General Wallace C. Gregson, Jr. currently serves as the Commander, U.S. Marine Forces Pacific; Commanding General, Fleet Marine Force, Pacific and Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Bases, Pacific, Headquartered at Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. He assumed his current assignment on August 03, 2003.
