US 'Namasthe' Organization Distributes Loans Among Madu Area Civilians


Distribution of interest-free loans to civilians, granted by US based ‘Namasthe’ organization in collaboration with Colombo Rotary Club under the fifth phase of the scheme took place recently in Madu area under the 611 Brigade Headquarters.

85 civilians under the arrangement organized through Bank of Ceylon received Rs 50,000/= each on interest free basis, following initiatives taken by 611 Brigade Headquarters in coordination with Grama Seva officers in Ichchankulam, Velankulam, Kalmadu, Paranatukallu, Marathamadu and No. 42 Iranaiiruppaikulam areas.

Under the programme, those 85 civilians, most of them either resettled or rehabilitated are to use these loans for various self employment projects such as poultry, vegetable farming, domestic industries, cattle rearing, etc on repayable basis.

Distribution ceremony was attended by Madu Divisional Secretary, Mr S Sathyasothi, Rotarians Rajeev Walpita, T Someshwaran, Nimal Samarakkody, Senaka Amarasinghe, Lucky De Silva, Mr S.M Sabeer, Welfare Officer at Ministry of Economic Development, Brigadier K.G.D Perera, Commander 611 Brigade, 25 Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 9 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Commanding Officers and several other invitees, including Grama Seva officers attended the occasion.

A sum of Rs 4.2 million was thus distributed among those poor civilians at that occasion.
