UPDATE: Commander Speaks to His Troops at Work in Aranayake

Intending to give a morale boost and appreciate arduous tasks being carried out by Army troops in the landslide-hit Aranayake areas, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva Wednesday (25) afternoon made a surprise visit and met a cross-section of 4 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) and 8 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Officers and other ranks serving there. 

At first the Commander of the Army arrived at the temporary Tactical Headquarters of the 58 Division, established particularly for emergency relief work where Major General Kavinda Gunawardene, General Officer Commanding, 58 Division presented an update on the ongoing search and relief operations. Later on, the Commander of the Army visited landslide affected areas together with Senior Officers and civil state authorities in charge of devastated areas. 

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva closely observed devastated areas and spoke to the troops at work, inquiring into the situation and also their concerns as possibilities of any outbreak of contagious diseases cannot be ruled out. 

Commander of the Army at the same time instructed Senior Officers to provide the troops on duty with all necessary sanitary requirements such as gloves, face masks, disinfectants, etc and any medical consultations, if deemed necessary. 

Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West), Major General Kavinda Gunawardene, General Officer Commanding, 58 Division, Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers were associated with the Army Commander’s visit to affected areas.
