University Students' Security Taken Up During Meeting with SFHQ-J Commander


Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) is to ensure security to all the Jaffna University students during their passage to the university across major roads leading to the premier institute of learning.

Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, SFJQ-J assured these measures when a top-level team of university administrators met him at the Jaffna Civil Affairs Office on Wednesday (23) and sought his assistance in strengthening security for undergraduates.

The meeting took place on the heels of an assault on an undergraduate, believed to have been caused as a result of a gang fighting that has been on among a section of university students.

During the cordial meeting, the Jaffna Commander underlined the importance of living in harmony with all ethnicities since the notion of separatism is now history as no one would be allowed to espouse violence in the future.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Vasanthi Arasarathnam told the meeting on life threats, being leveled by a few student elements on members of the Student Council and requested the Army and Police officers to help run the university free of any untoward incidents like how they maintain law and order elsewhere in the Jaffna peninsula

Kandasamy, Dean Faculty of Management & Commerce Prof. T. Velanamby, Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr. Mrs. S. Sivachandran and the President - Student Union of the Management Faculty P. Sabesh Kumar, students Janem Jayanth and A Pirasanna represented the University.

Brigadier Sumith Atapattu, Brigadier General Staff SFHQ-J Brigadier Piyal Wickramaratne, General Officer Commanding 51 Division Commander, Colonel Ajith Pallawela 512 Brigade and Colonel Christy Jayasinghe, Chief Coordinator Civil Affairs were also present.
