Unclaimed Apples Released by the Customs Shared among Elders, Children & The Disable in Special Orphanages & Homes

The Army's Quarter Master General (QMG) Branch and Directorate of Supply and Transport on the guidelines given by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID - 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) took steps jointly to distribute a consignment of 20,000 kgs of unclaimed green apples among Elders' Homes, Orphanages for Children and Disabled Persons, Hospitals and troops on Saturday (4) after the Sri Lanka Customs released them for distribution.

Sri Lanka Customs after contacting the Army wanted this unclaimed stock of imported green apples be shared among members of the armed forces before they turn rotten. After transport arrangements were made by Brigadier Hirosha Wanigasekera, Director Supply and Transport, the consignment was first brought to the Army HQ for distribution among troops serving around the country.

Afterwards, Major General Duminda Sirinaga, Quarter Master General (QMG) of the Army made arrangements to provide the bulk of the stock to the Rajagiriya Victoria Home, Sadhya Elders' Home on Bauddhaloka Road, Mallika Elders' Home at Bambalapitiya, Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children and a few more orphanages.

During today's symbolic distribution, 14 Division HQ troops of the Security Force HQ-West received their share from the QMG. The bulk of the stock is to be sent to all island-wide Security Force HQs and Training Schools for onward distribution within a day or two.
