5 (V) Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) troops of the 222 Infantry Brigade serving the 22 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ - East after completely renovating and painting the abandoned Christ the King Church in Seenipura area consecrated it having held its the first Divine Service on Sunday (26 Nov) after absence of more than three decades.
The Christ the King church inside the former Seenipura sugar factory compound remained unattended, abandoned and closed for more than 30 years as it lacked financial resources to conduct divine services continuously.
5 (V) SLA troops under the guidance of Colonel R.K.A.R.P Ratnayake, Commander, 222 Infantry Brigade and Lieutenant Colonel W.W.M.P.B Wekadapola, Commanding Officer of 5 (V) SLA with the blessings of the 22 Infantry Division's General Officer Commanding and the Commander, SF-East took the lead in this regard and cleaned it, colour washed it and renovated it fully with generosity extended by all Army personnel on voluntary basis.
