The customary UN Medal Parade, the prestigious military ceremony that recognizes the exemplary contribution, made by any specific contingent to maintain law and order in Lebanon, saw Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops, currently serving there, honoured awarding UN medals as their period of service in Lebanon is nearing completion.
The fifth Sri Lankan contingent, deployed at Nakura-based UNIFIL Headquarters in Lebanon for security roles is comprised of 10 officers and 140 other ranks of the SLSR.
The recent UN Medal awarding ceremony, headed by Major General Paolo Serra, Lebanon-based Force Commander took place with the participation of Major General Boniface Perera, Colonel of the Regiment, SLSR as a guest of honour, representing the Commander of the Army.
Decorations, including a gateway pandal, symbolic of Sri Lankan cultural feats and a traditional ‘Pantheru’ dancing troupe of the Army welcomed the visiting Force Commander and the SLSR Colonel of the Regiment to the medal parade. A Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour in keeping with military traditions saluted the visiting commanders.
Major General Paolo Serra, UN Force Commander during his interaction with the visiting SLSR Colonel of the Regiment, extolled the services, rendered by the Sri Lankan contingent in Lebanon and spoke high of their professional attainments and contribution to the UNIFIL project.
Major General Serra at the same occasion conveyed greetings and appreciative gestures of goodwill, sent by the UN Secretary General to the visiting Major General Perera from Sri Lanka.
The smart UN Medal Parade turned further dignified as the Force Commander reached out to each and every medal recipient thanking them for a job well-done.
