611 Brigade Headquarters under 61 Division carefully selected two children of low income groups from Tharanikulam and Katpagapuram areas in Vavuniya District secretariat and offered them scholarships for advanced studies.
Master Wilman Raj Arul Dasan of Tharanikulam Ganesh Vidyalaya is parentless and fed by a relative of the family, but is very clever at learning. However, troops of the 25 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) serving the area, on being informed of his requirements, contacted a donor and organized a monthly scholarship grant to the student.
Mrs Tharanga Baddegama of the South volunteered to allocate Rs 1000/= every month for studies of the student in response to the request made by 611 Brigade Headquarters.
In a similar arrangement Master Sundara Rajan Abishek of Nelukkulama Vidyalaya in the same 25 SLLI area, clever at learning was offered another monthly scholarship, worth Rs 1000/= for him to continue his higher studies.
Mr Thiyagaraj Kanthakumar of Vavuniya donated necessary funds for the scholarship at the invitation of 611 Brigade Headquarters. During a recent meeting, both scholarships were awarded to both students.
