Two New RSMs, Appointed to KDU & SLMA Get Piece of Advice from the Commander

The two newly-posted Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) to the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) and the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) on Monday (28) had the rare chance of receiving guidelines, instructions and best wishes on their new appointments from none other than the chief of the organization, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army when both of them called at the Commander’s office, together with the Adjutant General, Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe and the RSM at the Army Headquarters.

General Shavendra Silva highlighting the importance of both these appointments wanted Warrant Officer 1 W.P.D.R Weerasinghe and Warrant Officer 1 W.R.I Wijesundara, both from the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps to perform their best in new appointments and help elevate logistic administration roles in both military establishments. He also reminded them of the responsibilities associated with such appointments since an RSM serves as the bonding link between the officers and Other Ranks.

“The KDU, being the tri services’ only University has a bigger role to play in the making of an Officer who would be a military leader in future. I still remember how we were trained by RSMs for drills and different parades with meticulous precision and guidance at cadet training schools, a quality that lies only with you. So, adopt best strategic practices towards our budding Officers who are receiving leadership training both at the SLMA and the KDU,” General Shavendra Silva commented during the interaction.

Both these RSMs were recommended by the Directorate of Personnel Administration for these responsible appointments with the concurrence of the Adjutant General, Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe.

Towards the end of the brief meet, the Army Chief wished them good luck with their new responsibilities.

Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Adjutant General and Warrant Officer 1, P.G.M.S Jayaweera RSM at the Army Headquarters Battalion were present during the brief interaction at the Army Headquarters.
