Monday (3 July 2023) saw the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment while expanding its welfare role further for the benefit of SLLI soldiers building two more new houses at Embilipitiya and Kuruwita to be in line with the SLLI's ongoing 'Housing Project' initiated by Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu, Colonel of the Regiment SLLI and Chief of Staff.
The Phase-3 of the SLLI 'Housing Project' accordingly gifted two more new houses for two homeless soldiers of the 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment and the 16 (v) Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment during separate warming ceremonies on Monday (3), attended by the architect of the project, Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu as the Chief Guest.
Under this Phase, 7 SLLI Regiment providing their manpower and technical skills erected a new house for a homeless soldier of the 7 SLLI living in Katuwana, Embilipitiya with two kids. Similarly, 16 (v) SLLI Regiment as per directions of their Colonel of the Regiment constructed another new house for a most deserving SLLI soldier with one son in Nillapitiya, Kuruwita. Funds for those constructions were made jointly available by respective SLLI units and the SLLI Regimental HQ.
Respective Commanding officers of those two battalions closely supervised the construction process of these two houses on the directions of the Colonel of the Regiment SLLI and Senior Officers.
As the Chief Guest in the day's warming ceremonies, the Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI handed over the keys to the new houses with several gifts and wished the beneficiaries good luck. The house-warming ceremonies preceded religious observances, rites and rituals.
The SLLI's Center Commandant at Regimental Headquarters, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks who constructed those houses participated in separate house-warming ceremonies at Embilipitiya and Kuruwita.
