On information received from Military Intelligence troops, 20 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops of the 12 Division under the Security Force HQ-Central Tuesday evening (14) raided a Cannabis (Ganja) cultivation in the general area of Balaharuwa -Tanamalwila and destroyed it.
The illegal crop cultivation, grown in about 1/2cares of land has been done secretly inside jungle areas to the value of about Rs 10 m. Policemen also visited the location after its detection was intimated to them. Troops pulled out all plants and destroyed the bulk of it under the supervision of the Police.
The Thanamalwila Police are conducting investigations and pursuing necessary action.
Troops on the guidelines given by the General Officer Commanding, 12 Division and the directions of Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - central swooped on this illegal cultivation.
