Continuing the Army’s humanitarian assistance for livelihood of the LTTE’s ex-combatants or their families, the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna on Sunday (28) laid the foundation stones for construction of two more new houses for former combatant families at Alvai and Thumpalai in the Jaffna peninsula.
During separate foundation-stone laying ceremonies organized by 55 Division troops, Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna laid the cornerstones for construction of those two houses to members of the ex-combatant families of Mrs Tharsan Yogeshwari and Mrs Nirojan Yogam respectively.
The 80th Batch of the Colombo Royal College Old Boys Association (Tamil medium) were to spend for raw materials while 16 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment and 4 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops would provide manpower, technical and engineering expertise for both constructions under the supervision of the Commander 551 Brigade.
After the brief foundation-laying ceremonies, the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna donated dry ration packs and stationeries to children of those families, in addition to a similar stock of dry ration packets that were distributed among who participated in the inaugural events.
The Security Force HQ - Jaffna since few years following instructions of the Commander of the Army has been at the forefront of constructing houses for former LTTE combatants or their widowed families. The brief ceremony followed health guidelines as per instructions.
General Officer Commanding, 55 Division, Commanders of 551, 552 and 553 Brigades, Senior Officers, state officials and troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna were also present during this ceremony.
