Troops Show Gratitude to Kegalle Schools for Provision of Accommodation


On a personal directive, given by Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, 583 Brigade Headquarters, has taken steps to show the Army gratitude to 8 schools for temporarily accommodating about 4500 Army personnel who took part in the recent Independence Day celebrations in Kegalle.

Electronic appliances, such as ceiling fans, water treatment plants, electric organs, refrigerators and water pumps to the value of Rs. 3.3 lakhs were donated to those schools, Swarna Jayanthi Maha Vidyalaya, Kegalle Vidyalaya, Kegalle Girls Vidyalaya, Paragammana Dharmapala Junior  School, Ekiriyagala Primary School, Ranwala Mahanaga Vidyalaya, St. Josheph Girls College and St. Mary’s Boys College as tokens of appreciation and gratitude, in addition to several construction and repair works that were carried out in a few those schools as goodwill gestures.

Troops with the support of Engineer Service Regiment (ESR) constructed two more toilets for students at Paragammana Dharmapala Kanishta Vidyalaya at Army cost after learning the requirement of those sanitary facilities.

Meanwhile, under the same project Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) members and ESR soldiers separately, painted the teachers quarters and two class rooms at St Joseph Girls’ School and St Mary’s Boys School respectively as tokens of gratitude to those schools which provided shelter to the Army members during the event.

In the meantime, all government officials and others in NGOs who assisted the Army in various ways through coordination and other facilitation were hosted to dinner by the Army, showing its gratitude to them.

Major General Sumeda Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - West, commended the services of those officials during the dinner party, organized for them at Kegalle Grand Relidiya Hotel.

Similarly, the Army has offered its leadership training expertise to the Ranwala Maha Naga Vidyalaya, assuring those school prefects with full board and login during the training.
