Troops of Security Forces Headquarters (West) Volunteer for Blood Donation

Following the initiative of the Commander of the Army, with the guidance of Major General A.H.L.G. Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Commander of Security Forces (West) and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Engineers, Security Forces Headquarters (West) organized a blood donation campaign on 26 September 2024 in line with the 75th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army.

The event underscored the Army’s commitment towards social responsibility and its dedication to serving the nation. The campaign took place at the Army Bodhirajarama Temple in Panagoda.

This charitable initiative aimed to address the ongoing demand for blood donations in Sri Lanka, particularly in light of recent challenges faced by the nation's health services.

A total of 718 donors, including military personnel, Commander Security Forces (West), Brigadier W.H.U.D. Wijerathna, Director General of Army Health Services, Colonel S.L.S. Kumarage USP, Transfusion Specialist from Army Hospital Colombo, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, and civil servants, participated in the event.

Their contributions significantly helped to replenish blood stocks at the National Blood Transfusion Centre.

The medical component of the campaign was supported by the National Blood Transfusion Centre, Army Hospital Colombo, General Hospital Jayawardanepura, Teaching Hospital Ragama, and Apeksha Hospital Maharagama.
