Troops Promptly Respond to DMC's SOS & Recover Remains from Dried Well

8 Gajaba Regiment (GR) troops of the 532 Brigade serving under the 53 Division HQ, consequent upon an SOS message given by the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) at Colombo rushed to Matale, Raththota area on Friday (23) in order to rescue a man, said to have fallen into an abandoned well in the area.

Troops after reaching the location found that the victim, N.A Vithanage Chandradasa had fallen into the abandoned dried well, perhaps by accident, but failed to survive. However, troops managed to evacuate the corpse and delivered it to the Police for onward arrangements.

The operation was carried out on the instructions of Major General Nishantha Manage, General Officer Commanding, 53 Division and under the guidance of the 532 Brigade Commander and Commanding Officer, 8 Gajaba Regiment.
