Troops with Policemen Arrest 144 Suspects, Engaged in Illegal Sand-mining

A special raid, conducted by 22 Division troops, together with Policemen in the general area of Trincomalee on Saturday (26) apprehended 144 persons, engaged in illegal sand mining, along with four tipper trucks, 15 tractors, 13 motorbikes, 26 shovels and 62 x buckets.

Apprehended persons, vehicles and all equipment were handed over to Mutur, Kinniya and Serunuwara Police Stations for further investigations.

On directions given by the General Officer Commanding 22 Infantry Division, Major General Channa Weerasuriya, a total of about 100 troops of the 15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI), 22 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) and 4 Special Force (SF) serving under the 222 and 223 Brigades in the company of respective Policemen participated in the raid.

Troops, supervised by the troops provided the security network to the Police for arrest of those suspects in the general areas of Samagipura, Kandalkadu and Neelapola.
