Troops Play Active Role in Fire Fight in Kamburupitiya

MATARA & KAMBURUPITIYA: ARMY TROO

PS backed by Air Force and Navy personnel rushed to help douse the fire broke out on a line of shops in KAMBURUPITIYA town center this morning (8) when fire fighters were struggling to bring the situation under control.

Many shops were guttered completely as a result of an accidental fire erupted at a filling station at one corner of the city while a Bowser was unloading fuel, according to the Police.

As the fire spilled over to the adjusant line of shops the situation became intense forcing the public to summon Fire Fighters from MATARA and closest cities, in order to bring the situation under control. But the spread of the fire intensified.

Army troops from MATARA, Sailors from TANGALLA and Air Force Fire Unit with two helicopters from KOGGALA Air Base on being alerted rushed to the effected city and joined Fire Fighters playing an active role for the prevention of further spread of the fire.

How ever the fire was brought under control within a matter of few hours.
