Adding their share to the expansion of national forest cover and beautify the country in accordance with the ‘Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak’ concept of the Commander of the Army, 14 Gajaba Regiment troops in Jaffna launched a project to plant 500 mangrove saplings covering a 200 m stretch of the Nawanthurai Lagoon of Jaffna on Sunday (21).
The project was kicked off under the supervision of Major General Priyantha Perera, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna with the participation of 14 GR troops, 512 Brigade troops and local civil authorities who volunteered to support the project.
Land area for planting of those 500 mangroves was identified by the Forest Department which also was generous in donating those mangroves to the troops.
