19 (V) Gajaba Regiment troops of 563 Brigade under 56 Division of the Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) have volunteered to build a new house for a needy woman in the newly-resettled Bogaswewa-Veheratenna area, following sponsorship received from an expatriate in Australia.
Learning of the hardships, faced by Mrs W.M Ishara Srimalee Wijesundara, a mother with one child, the SFHQ-W in coordination with the 56 Division and 563 Brigade, harnessed the support of the foreign donor, Dr D.T Gamage of New Castle University who came forward to give his support to this worthy cause since this woman was living in a temporary shelter with her child.
On Monday (21), Major General Boniface Perera, Commander SFHQ-W, together with General Officer Commanding - 56 Division, 563 Brigade Commander and 19 (V) Gajaba Regiment Commanding Officer laid the foundation stone for construction of this new house. With the government’s support, more than 90 % displaced civilians have been resettled by now with all amenities in place.
On the same day, the Wanni Commander took part in a separate ceremony to distribute plant seeds among Bogaswewa civilians who are engaged in agriculture. On his way back, Major General Perera went to see the students learning at Bogaswewa Vidyalaya with a view to enquiring into their progress.
Ven. K Wimalasara Thero, 56 Division General Officer Commanding and senior officers were associated with these humanitarian projects.
