Troops Mark Full Moon Day Offering Relief Packs to More than 300 Needy Families

On a suggestion made by Major General Priyantha Perera, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, troops of the 51 Division Headquarters on account of the 'Bak' Pura Pasaloswaka Poya Day (Full Moon Day) gave away more than 300 dry ration packs, each worth about Rs. 1400/= and a similar number of cooked lunch packets among needy families in Selvapuram village in Urumpirai South area on Monday (26).

The distribution project got underway under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 51 Division, together with his troops after selecting poverty-affected worst areas. The programme, sponsored by philanthropists of the South and North with the support of own troops, focused on provision of some relief to the less fortunate and underprivileged families to maintain the spirits of reconciliation, unity and solidarity between civilians and Security Forces in the area.

The project benefited more than 1500 residents in the area and was launched adhering to strict health guidelines as a community-oriented project.
