With the sponsorship provided by an Austrailia-based couple, 222 Infantry Brigade troops under command to the 22 Infantry Division with the objective of encouraging low-income group children for studies at Sri Sumedankara Dhamma School facilitated the donation of a large consignment of school accessories, stationery and books on Sunday (10 December) at Seruwawila Raja Maha Vihara premises.
Australia-based Mr Ropitha Gannoruwa and his family at the request of Brigadier H. K.S Thilakaratne, Brigade Commander, 222 Infantry Brigade offered monetary assistance to the value of Rs 220,000/= for purchase of the stock for free distribution. Major General P.A.M Peiris RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division as the Chief Guest attended the distribution of those aids among 101 selected students learning in Grade 1-4.
In addition, soon after the distribution, all 250 students in the school and teachers were treated to a delicious lunch in the Dhamma School premises.
The family of the donor, Civil Affairs Officer of the 222 Infantry Brigade, Commanding Officer, 9 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Senior Officers and Other Ranks troops also took part in this occasion.
