With the aim of raising income generating avenues for newly resettled Tamil people in areas under the Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), troops of the 25 Gajaba Regiment on the directions of the Commander, (SFHQ-KLN), conducted the soil preparations free of charge in an area of about 25 acres for cultivation of gherkin.
Those areas in the past 20-25 years remained not tilled and infertile due to LTTE terrorist activities since cultivators as well as owners of those lands kept off from their cultivation work under LTTE threats.
A group of cultivators sought the help of the Army for tilling and preparation of the ground as its soil is ideal for gherkin cultivation. Troops responded positively and provided them with tractors and fertilizer after gathering them.
The patch of land prepared by Army troops is now being cultivated as photos below show.
