A group of one Officer and eight Other Ranks of the 1 Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps (SLAPC) of the 612 Infantry Brigade under the Security Force HQ - West (SFHQ-West) swiftly assisted to control a fire that erupted in a paddy field stretch at Weragama on Saturday (28 Jan).
Following information received from civilians in Wadduwa area, troops rushed to the location and controlled the fire in less than two hours, preventing its further spread. Fire fighters in the Fire Brigade, Kalutara and civilians also helped control measures although the fire had by then damaged approximately 10 acres of the entire field patch.
Troops commanded by Major U.M.P Udukumara, Commanding Officer, 1 SLAPC, completed the task under the guidance of Colonel Jayanath Perera, Commander, 612 Infantry Brigade, General Officer Commanding 61 Division, Major General Udaya Herath and Major General Deepal Pussella, Commander, SF - West.
