Troops of 3 (V) Gemunu Watch (GW) of the 613 Infantry Brigade and the 61 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ-West took prompt action to douse a bushfire, broke out in the Kuruthotakanda, Ginnaliya forest reserve in Matara district at the request of the Urubokka Police Station on Wednesday (02 August) morning.
As soon as the news was reported, a team of Army personnel including one Officer rushed to the location and managed to extinguish the fast-spreading flames within just three hours before it would escalate into a more destructive fire. The fire has begun in the forest reserve of Kolonna area before it spread into other areas.
The task was closely supervised by the Commanding Officer of the 3 (V) GW and the Commander, 613 Infantry Brigade, on the instructions of the Commander, Security Forces-West and the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division.
