Officers and Other Ranks of 51 Division on Monday (7 March 2005) promptly and fully complied with an SOS appeal from Doctors and Medical Staff at Jaffna Teaching Hospital to the Army for immediate supply of blood, needed for urgent surgeries.
In response to this request made to the 512 Brigade in Jaffna town, a large number of Army personnel lined up at Jaffna Sri Nagavihara premises to donate blood, much needed by patients undergoing treatment at Jaffna hospital.
A total number of 70 Army personnel volunteered and obliged by donating blood for the use of patients after the hospital staff made this request for blood to the 512 Brigade following a shortage that prevailed in the hospital.
Civilians in the area, apparently encouraged by the move also joined hands with the troops to support the blood donation campaign
