8 Gemunu Watch troops under command to the 611 Brigade of the 61 Division under the Security Force HQ - West rushed this morning (4) to Ratnapura, Dumbara, Ihalapola area to rescue a family, affected by minor earthslips and torrential rains.
Troops trekked along the affected areas, clearing obstacles on their way amidst torrential rains and rescued a 50-year old woman, trapped in a mound of earth and took her to the closest Kiriella Hospital.
Afterwards, troops continued their search & rescue missions in and around the area, affected by the earthslip and recovered a dead body of a 17-year old young girl, caught in the disaster. During the search, they came across another 60-year old man, buried alive in mounds of earth after a minor earthslip affected the area.
Troops are still attending to those emergencies in coordination with villagers.
