One Mr Wasantha Pothupitiya, a social worker from Colombo during a visit to the East, gave a New Year gift to a poor family, headed by the widow, A.M Kumarihami following coordination done by the Civil Affairs Office of the 24 Division under the Security Force Headquarters -East (SFHQ-E).
The donor, having learnt that the said mother with two children was living in a miserable state due to poverty after her husband had died of cancer, offered a stock of readymade garments and school amenities, needed for two children who are schooling.
The donation coordinated by the Civil Affairs Office of the 24 Division took place on the Sinhala and Tamil New Year day itself (April 14). A few Army personnel were present at the time of the donation.
