Troops of 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry of 141 Brigade and 10 Sri Lanka National Guards (SLNG) under command to 142 Brigade rushed to Mirigama, Bokulagama area and Embulgama area are currently engaged in rescue and relief operations after heavy rains caused havoc in the past 48 hours.
All of these rescue and relief operations are done on the instructions of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army. Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander Security Forces - West with respective GOCs and Brigade Commanders are closely coordinating those efforts.
In Mirigama, Bokulagama, troops evacuated a woman (59) and a physically-handicapped man of 65 years of age who trapped due to floods last evening (3).
Meanwhile, troops of 10 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) under command to the 142 Brigade of the 14 Division removed huge trees, mounds of earth, rock boulders and other obstacles that had fallen along Embulgama Rajamaha Vihara road in Hanwella.
Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, General Officer Commanding, 14 Division, Brigadier Pradeep Gamage, Commander 141 Brigade and Brigadier Nilantha Fernando, Commander, 142 Brigade, together with respective commanding officers carried out those emergency measures.
