Troops Build One More 'Sirasa Niwasa' for a Needy Family in Thimbirigaswewa

Troops of the 3 Corps of Engineer Service Regiment, 3 Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps , 5 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and Forward Maintenance Area -East under command to the Security Force HQ-East jointly constructed a new home for a needy family in Thimbirigaswewa, Habarana under the 'Sirasa Niwasa' project on the directions given by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army after the MTV/MBC, 'Sirasa' Media Network sought the Army technical and manpower assistance for its construction.

At the invitation of the sponsors, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army on Saturday (14), together with Mrs Sujeewa Nelson - President Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Mr Priyantha Wijesingha - Director, Public Relations MTV and MBC Network and an official representing the 'Sirasa Niwasa' programme warmed the new house and vested it in the beneficiary.

After the miserable plight of poverty-stricken, Ms K. G Babynona's living condition was brought to the notice, the sponsors in order to mitigate the costs of the construction turned to the Commander of the Army in search of Army manpower and their construction skills for erection of this much-needed house.

In accordance with ancient traditions, the day's Chief Guest and the sponsors at the auspicious minute unveiled a plaque, joined oil-lamp lighting and milk-pot boiling rituals, together with beneficiaries while the recipient's relatives were looking on.

General Shavendra Silva graced the auspicious inaugural house-warming as the Chief Guest. The Army Chief enabled the technically-skilled engineering and other troops to complete the project with funds and resources, made available by the 'Sirasa Niwasa' project according to time frame suggested by them.

During the inauguration, Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit also gifted a stock of valuable essentials to the beneficiary as incentives. At the same location, the Army Seva Vanitha Unit organized the distribution of 350 packs of dry rations each worth about Rs.1500/= through Ven. Patunugama Sujatha Thera, Chief incumbent at Thimbirigaswewa temple. Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit joined the distribution of those relief packs among needy families in Thimbirigaswewa area in Habarana.

Major General Channa Weerasuriya - Commander Security Forces- East, Major General Mahesh Abeyrathna - Commander FMA (East), General Officer Commanding's, 'Sirasa' Media Network officials, community leaders, relatives of the family and well-wishers were associated with the day's event. The sponsors have been gifting such new homes for deserving families since of recent times in close co-operation with the manpower support extended by the Army on the directions of the Commander of the Army.
