Troops of Army and Navy Rescued Myanmar Refugees

The troops of Army (593 Infantry Brigade and 6 Sri Lanka National Guard) and Navy successfully rescued a boat carrying 102 Myanmar refugees attempting to land on the shores of Wellamullivaikkal in Mullaitivu on 19 December 2024.

Later the boat was directed to Trincomalee harbour under the security of the Navy troops. The refugees were then provided with fresh meals, dry rations, water and other sanitary facilities by the troops of 593 Infantry Brigade, under the direction of Major General D.R.N Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP, the General Officer Commanding of 59 Infantry Division.
