15 (V) Gemunu Watch troops of the 542 Brigade of the 54 Division this morning (18) at about 10.00 am arrested two suspects with 219 kg of smuggled turmeric at the roadblock in Kunchikulam, Mannar.
The suspects were trying to take the stocks to Nittambuwa area in a Mitzubishi canter lorry when the troops on suspicion stopped the vehicle for a search.
The value of the smuggled stock stands at Rs 1.3 m. Troops handed over the suspects with the turmeric stock to the Mannar Police for further investigations.
