Troops of 3 SLLI and 8 GR Ensure Public Safety During Adverse Weather Condition

At the request of the Disaster Management Centre – Mannar, and under the guidance of Major General M.T.I. Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc, Commander 1 Corps and General Officer Commanding of the 53 Infantry Division, along with instructions from the Commander of the Airmobile Brigade, troops of the 3 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) successfully secured the Periyakulam tank bund on 27 November 2024.

Three Officers and 20 Other Ranks of the 3 SLLI placed sandbags around vulnerable areas that were at risk of breaching due to rising water levels. Hundreds of families living in the area praised their timely intervention and expressed gratitude for the life-saving efforts.

Troops of the 8 Gajaba Regiment (GR) conducted disaster relief operations in Ovilikanda, Matale, on 26 November 2024, following heavy rainfall that caused a house to collapse. The troops responded swiftly, ensuring the safety and well-being of the affected residents while supporting recovery efforts.

Further, troops of 8 GR cleared a massive fallen tree obstructing the Kirimetiywa–Makulemada road. Their prompt and skilled intervention restored traffic flow, alleviating public inconvenience and bringing relief to the community.
