A special ‘Poson Zone’ erected in the hearts of Trincomalee, by the 22 Division Headquarters on account of Poson Full Moon Day for the 3rd consecutive year became a crowd-puller and was held for three consecutive days (June 4, 5 & 6).
The zone consisted of a member of Poson illuminations and a mammoth ‘Dansala’ which served rice and curry to over 20,000 sight-seers. People of major ethnicities-Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim, visited the zone and enjoyed different colourful arrangements, including stage drama, Bhakthi Gee Concerts, lanterns, etc.
The inauguration of the Poson zone followed a brief ceremony on June 4, attended by a host of invitees including the Governor for Eastern Province, Naval Commander for the East, Deputy Inspector General of Police for Trincomalee, Commadant, Sri Lanka Air Force Training Faculty, at the invitation of Brigadier A Mahinda Weerasuriya, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division Headquarters.
The project, a reconciliatory gesture organized annually by the 22 Division Headquarters, is designed to further promote harmony and goodwill among all major ethnicities in the province.
