A trial train run on the newly-built railway track to Kilinochchi on Thursday (29) after absence of more than 30 years, was witnessed by a large gathering who assembled along the railway line from Omanthai to Kilinochchi.
Covering a distance of 62 km, between Omanthai and Kilinochchi, this trial train stopped at Puliyankulam, Mankulam, Thirumurukandi stations before reaching Kilinochchi within a matter of one hour.
The new railway track, being built by an Indian Company is to be ceremonially commissioned by HE the President on September 14, 2013.
General Officer Commanding, tri-service officers, civilians and a large gathering welcomed the train on trial at Kilinochchi.
