Tri Servicemen & Policemen in Wanni, Mullaittivu & Kilinochchi Welcome Secretary Defence

Major General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd), Secretary to the Ministry of Defence upon assumption of office as the Secretary of Defence made his first visit to the Security Force Headquarters-Wanni on Friday (l7) and addressed more than 300 Tri servicemen, Police and STF personnel.

During his address, he appreciated all responsibilities being carried out by the Tri-forces and the Police to eradicate the COVID -19 pandemic from the island. “Due to untiring efforts and the commitment made by all of you, the situation of the country has improved to a satisfactory level. The assistance given to government authorities during curfew hours by you all is very much commended and deserves our praise as well as that of the general public in the country,” he told the gathering.

Major General (Retd) Gunaratne was welcomed on his arrival at the Security Force Headquarters-Wanni in a drive-past and driven in a ceremonial Military Police out riders before Major General Rohitha Dharmasiri, Commander, Security Forces-Wanni welcomed the day’s Chief Guest to the Security Force Headquarters-Wanni.

The day's visitor recollected some of his memories way back in 2009 and during his tenure as the Commander, Security Forces- Wanni as well as the work that he fulfilled as the Competent Authority for Rehabilitation in the Wanni area with the assistance of Tri-Forces. Commander, Sri Lanka Air Force, Chief of National Intelligence, Commander Security Forces-Wanni, General Officers Commanding of 21, 54, 56, 62 Divisions, Commander FMA, North-Central, Commander North Western Naval Command, Commander North Central Naval Area of Sri Lanka Navy, Base Commanders of Anuradhapura and Vavuniya of Sri Lanka Air Force, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Central Province in Anuradhapura and DIGs of Anuradhapura and Vavuniya, Senior Superintendent of Police - STF Vavuniya Senior Officers of Security Force Headquarters - Wanni, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers of under Command Brigades in Wanni and Other Ranks of Tri Forces and Police participated in the event at the SFHQ-Wanni.

Meanwhile, the Secretary Defence Major General (retd) Kamal Gunarathna during his northern visit called at the Security Force HQ in Mullaittivu on Friday (17) and addressed the troops appreciating their tireless roles.

The visiting Secretary was welcomed by Major General Deepthi Jayathillake, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu at the entrance.

He spoke high of the commitments of Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Special Task Force and Civil Security Department to eradicate the Covid-19 epidemic from the motherland.

Air Marshal Sumangala Dias, Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Major General Deepthi Jayathilake, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu, General Officers Commanding of 59, 64 and 68 Divisions, DIG, Mullaittivu, Senior Navy, Air Force, STF and Police Officers, Tri service Senior Officers, Police Officers and servicemen were there to listen to the visiting Secretary Defence.

Meanwhile, Secretary Defence, Major General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) on Friday (17) completed his itinerary in the northern province by visiting the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi where he addressed the troops of the tri services, Policemen and Civil Security Department personnel. Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi, Major General Jayantha Gunaratne warmly welcomed the visiting Secretary of Defence and invited him to address the gathering.

During his address he highly appreciated all duties carried out by the Tri-forces, Policemen and Civil Security Department personnel to eradicate the COVID - 19 pandemic from the country. He thanked each and everyone for the efforts.
