Transmission of a daily news bulletin with most important military and non-military updates using journalistic skills of Other Ranks inside the Army HQ complex got to a start this afternoon (18) during the lunch break as a new project, introduced by the Directorate of Media at the Army HQ.
The broadcasting to be carried out daily by Other Ranks, competent in news-reading, talk shows, moderating, editing and announcing came about on a conceptual notion of Brigadier Chandana Wickremasinghe, Director Media and Military Spokesman in a bid to stimulate and encourage such talents among budding Other Ranks who possess a knack for journalism and similar broadcasting assignments.
Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army adding his compliments and best wishes to the inaugural news bulletin in a pre-recorded message praised the Directorate for the valuable and timely initiative.
The novel news bulletin, to be broadcast at 1.00 pm on all five working days covers Army features, current affairs, international news, educative inputs and sports and is to be presented by Warrant Officer I A.A.N.P Amarasinghe and Corporal H.W.A Chathurani of the Directorate of Media at the beginning.
