Troops of the Non Commissioned Officers Training School at Kalaoya, Saliyawewa on Friday (19) and Saturday (20) succeeded in rescuing 48 civilians stranded due to floods in Rajanganaya Yaya 18 area after torrential rains, caused opening of the sluice gates of the Rajanganaya reservoir.
At the same time, those troops jumped into action and moved out valuable accessories, equipment and two employees of the ‘Lifford Trails’ tourist resort in Galawala on Wilpattu road which were badly affected due to overflowing.
The value of the accessories and furniture that were thus removed was about Rs 30 lakhs. Troops also provided cooked meals to all the flood victims after evacuating them to safer places.
