A host of traditional games as well as other fun-making sports items and competitions, such as grease-pole climbing, cadjan-weaving, sack running, lime-balancing, tug of war, selection of New Year prince and princess, fancy-dress parades, bun-eating, marathons, bicycle races, etc were among the highlights that dominated the 56 Division-organized Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations at V/Bogaswewa Maha Vidyalaya ground on Monday (24).
Under the guidance of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), 56 Division troops, together with civilians of all ethnicities celebrated the event at Bogaswewa on a grand scale. Giving priority to traditional games and other sports, the event got to a start with the arrival of Brigadier T.J Nanayakkara, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 56 Division as the day's Chief Guest.
A gathering of Officers and Other Rankers serving Brigades and Units under command to the 56 Division, adding strength to their fellow-men joined the event, sponsored by Nestle Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.
The joyful day culminated with a musical night, coloured by the popular ensemble of Ranaviru Real Star vocalists to the music of the Army band.
