The traditional Katina Pooja ceremony of Sri Naga Viharaya in Jaffna took place on 26 and 27 October 2024 under the guidance of Shasthrapathi, Venerable Meegahajandure Sirivimala Thero, with the support of the 51 Infantry Division.
This annual event began on 26 October with a Bodhi Pooja and Dhamma sermon conducted at the Division Headquarters, under the guidance of Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), and Major General W.B.J.K Wimalaratne RWP RSP, General Officer Commanding of the 51 Infantry Division.
On 27 October, a ceremonial procession, led by Major General G.L.S.W. Liyanage USP psc, Commander of Logistics Command, Security Forces (Jaffna), carried the Katina Cheevaraya to Sri Naga Viharaya, where the robes were presented to the Maha Sangha. The ceremony included offerings of Heel Daana, Atapirikara and a Katina Anisansa sermon.
Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Special Task Force, government officials, religious dignitaries, and many devotees participated in the event.
