Top-level security delegation flies to Jaffna

A high level delegation of the Government including Secretary to His Excellency, the President Mr Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, three Service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police flew to Jaffna on Tuesday (06) afternoon to review the current security developments and adopt measures to intensify security measures after two separate LTTE claymore explosions, in which fifteen soldiers were killed including an Officer.

The visiting delegates after received by Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna Major General S. D Tennekoon held extensive discussions with field commanders regarding measures that should be adopted to defuse tension and restore law and order in its entirety.

This was the first visit of the Commander of the Army Lt Gen G.S.C. Fonseka to Jaffna just a few hours after he assumed office as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.
