Timely Roles of Peninsula-based 29 MOs, 86 PHIs & 210 Midwives against COVID-19 Hailed & Appreciated

A special felicitation ceremony, staged by the Security Force HQ-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) at Thalsevana Holiday Resort in Kankesanthurai on Saturday (4) appreciated, recognized and acknowledged unfailing services and life-threatening duties, performed in the peninsula during the height of COVID - 19 epidemic by 29 Medical Officers (MOs), 86 Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) and 210 midwives as front-liners by awarding mementoes and appreciative certificates.

The initiative, launched by the day's Chief Guest, Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku, Commander Security Forces Jaffna and District Coordinator of COVID-19 Control and Prevention in Jaffna saw the felicitation ceremony was attended by Mr Kanapathipillai Maheshan, District Secretary for Jaffna, Dr. A. Ketheeswaran, Provincial Director of Health Services in Jaffna, Dr. P. Paraneetharan, Regional Epidemic Controller, Dr S.Sribavanandarajah, Deputy Director Teaching Hospital Jaffna, Dr. S Nithiyananda, MO Mental and Child Health and School Medical Officer, Dr. N Nickson Kamalarajan, MO Environmental and Occupational Health, Health Officers, Major General Chandana Wickremasinghe, Commander, 51 Division, Major General Wanditha Mahinkanda, Commander FMA North, Senior officers and members of the Army.

On the same occasion, the reputed philanthropist and Chairman of the ‘Thyagie Charitable Trust’ Mr V Thyagendran, who had contributed generously towards the health safety of Jaffna populace was also hailed and appreciated during the same event. His daughter, Ms Thyagendran accepted the memento on his father's behalf.

The rare event, coloured with several cultural and dancing spectacles spoke high of those frontliners who despite threats for own lives volunteered to carry out their preventive, management and treatment duties, right in time in order to save hundreds of innocent lives while PHIs did marvellous preventive duties with necessary lockdowns and restrictions as necessary, the occasion was told.

The day's Chief Guest, Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku, Commander Security Forces-Jaffna and District Coordinator of COVID-19 Control and Prevention in Jaffna awarded those laurels and certificates as their names were called out. Health Guidelines were strictly followed during the arrangement.
