Timely Intervention Saves Villages from Flood Risk

Due to adverse weather condition, the Iramiyankulam tank bund in Kristhowakulam village, Cheddikulam, was damaged under the pressure of heavy water flow, threatening the nearby Adhiyapuliyankulam village and its residents' homes and farmland.

On 27 November 2024, the Commanding Officer and troops of the 2 Mechanized Infantry Regiment took immediate action to temporarily repair the bund by placing sandbags, mitigating the disaster situation.

Additionally, troops from the 5 Sri Lanka National Guard Regiment strengthened the Mahawilachchiya tank bund by placing sandbags around vulnerable areas at risk of breaching due to rising water levels.

This prompt action was taken under the supervision of the Commander of 213 Infantry Brigade.
