Tigers Lose More Land &; Resources

NORTH, WANNI & EAST: SOLDIERS serving NAGARKOVIL area were caught up in an LTTE booby trap explosion Sunday (9) around 10.00 a.m. bringing death to one soldier and injury to another.

Tiger terrorists had laid the booby trap in order to cause harm to the Security Forces.

The injured soldier was evacuated to Army Base Hospital PALALY.

At least fifteen terrorists lost their lives during the clashes troops have had in UMAYARATHUWARANKULAM, VILATHIKULAM, VENKALACHEDDIKULAM, ADAMPAN, PULMODDAI, ILANTAIVAN and JANAKAPURA in WANNI and WELIOYA areas on Sunday (9).

Tiger terrorists also lost a number of their bunkers and many of them had to withdraw with their own casualties.

Five valiant soldiers also laid their lives during those confrontations with terrorists.

Meanwhile, troops recovered five hundred and fifty-four anti personnel mines, two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during search and clear operations in VAVUNIYA, MANNAR and WELIOYA areas in the past 48 hours.

Meanwhile, troops found one 81 mm mortar bomb, two 60 mm mortar bombs and two hand grenades from ANDANKULAM area in WELIOYA the same day (9).

During another extended search operation in KEERAKALE, SINNAKADAI and KONTHANPIDDI areas in MANNAR, troops found forty cement bags and 12 barrels of 210 litres diesel capacity each Sunday (9).

In the eastern BATTICALOA area troops uncovered one 120 mm gun carriage covered with polythene Sunday (9) around 5.40 p.m. while it was left buried in the earth near TRACTOR Junction area.
