Tigers' “Michael Base” Now Under Army Troops

WELIOYA: VALIANT TROOPS of the Army, achieving one more dominant position in their WELIOYA offensives against terrorism bagged another area of about 200 sq meters, about seven km north of JANAKAPURA by Friday (4) afternoon after capturing the LTTE's famous “Michael Base”.

The heavily-fortified LTTE stronghold area, densely infested with most dangerous mines and different explosive devices, was fiercely defended nearly for three days by Tiger terrorists until Friday (4) late afternoon before the troops rolled on into their fortress, popularly called the “Michael Base” and dominated the premises.

Troops inching into the compound taking best precautions were still searching the area at the time this report was filed Friday (4) evening. By now, troops have come across three underground bunkers and another line of fortified bunkers. Casualties among Tiger terrorists are yet to be ascertained. So far troops did not suffer any casualties.

Search and clear operations are still in progress.
