'Thuru Mithuru-Nawa Ratak' Joins 'Suwa Dharani' National Programme to Plant Herbal Medicine Plants along AHQ Road

To coincide with the 'Herbal Medicine Day' in parallel with the 'Suwa Dharani' National Programme of the Ministry of Health, Nutrition & Indigenous Medicine Practices, the Sri Lanka Army HQ launched its own planting of herbal saplings along both sides of the road that leads to the Army Headquarters on Thursday (17).

The event which also coincides with the 'Thuru Mithuru-Nawa Ratak' concept of the Army Chief was graced by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock. It also relates to HE the President's 'Saubhagyaye Dekma' policy statement which advocates urban greeneries and planting of rare species.

Brigadier Indrajith Kandanarachchi, Director Agriculture and Livestock welcomed the Chief Guest and invited him to plant the first herbal sapling for inauguration of the project on the occasion, attended by Officers and Other Ranks.

Troops during the day's programme planted 100 plus endangered saplings and creepers of herbal medicine value, such as Sandalwood, Aadathoda, Anodhaa, Mee, Nika, Haathawariya, Ashoke, Bimkohomba, Kohomba, Karanda, Bulu, Nelli, etc.

The project covered from the turn at the Central Environment Authority towards the entrance of the Army Headquarters which is also being developed under the 'Thuru Mithuru-Nawa Ratak'. The Army since November last year has been actively engaged in converting nearby marshy lands into paddy-fields, leisure and PT grounds and children's parks. bridge media | Womens Shoes Footwear & Shoes Online
