Thunukkai Filled with Christmas Spirits

The annual Christmas Carols staged at Iranamathanagar Catholic Church by the 651 Brigade Headquarters in the 65 Division under the Security Force Headquarters – Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) on Friday (29) attracted more than 1000 Catholic devotees.

Rev Fr Aruth Chelvam, Parish Priest at Iranamathanagar Catholic church with the coordination of other clergies in the area participated in the event.

Troops of 651 Brigade and 11 (V) Gajaba Regiment provided their fullest support for the success of the event by way of supplying electricity, sound systems and many other decorations, equipment, etc.

Adding festive atmosphere to the occasion, Christmas Carols sung in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages, several choirs including the Choir of Kumara Church - Chillaw, sang most celebrated melodies of praise and appreciation of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Those children who were part of the Carol singing were gifted sweets and toys, provided free by the 65 Division. All were served with snacks during the evening.

The event was organized on the directions of the General Officer Commanding, 65 Division, Major General Sarath Weerawardhana and under the supervision of Brigadier Ranjith Abesinghe, Brigade Commander, 651 Brigade.

Clergies, Officer-in-charge of Mulankavil Police station - Inspector Rukmal Rathnayake, Senior Officers, Officers and a large crowd of catholic devotees together with civilians in the area witnessed the event.
