The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), adding a fillip to its ongoing house-construction project for War Heroes, handed over one more SVAB-built new home and two more Gemunu Watch (GW) Seva Vanitha unit-erected houses in Galle district Monday (10) to War Heroes and their spouses during separate formal ceremonies.
Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB in the company of GW Seva Vanitha unit chairperson, Sri Lanka Signal Corps chairperson and a host of SVAB members, attended all three ceremonies as the Chief Guest.
The SVAB, allocating Rs 5 lakhs contributed to the construction of the house at Thalgasyaya, Akmeemana on behalf of late War Hero Lance Corporal R.M. Wijeratne of 6 GW. Mrs Jayasuriya as the auspicious minute, 8.02 a.m. struck ceremonially opened the new house.
Differently able two more War Heroes received financial aid from the GW Seva Vanitha unit and got their houses constructed at Batapola and Dodangoda areas which were also ceremonially opened Monday (10) morning hours.
Corporal R.M. Jagath Kumara of 11 GW and Sergeant S.G. Hewawasam of 6 GW sustained serious injuries and became disable during humanitarian operations. Both of them received financial support of GW Seva Vanitha unit for erection of their new houses.
Labour support for construction of all three houses was provided by fellow-soldiers of GW Regiments.
Monday’s (10) ceremonies at three respective places, commenced giving pride of place to religious ceremonies and formal traditions. Members of the Maha Sangha blessed the occasion and chanted Seth Pirith in accordance with religious traditions.
Mrs Ishara Sudarshani, the widow of Lance Corporal R.M. Wijeratne received the keys for the new house at Akmeemana on behalf of the fallen War Hero.
At the end of each ceremony, Mrs Jayasuriya gave away three separate gift parcels to three house recipients.
