BATTICALOA : FOLLOWING information provided by an informant, a combined search and clear operation was conducted by the VAVUNIYA Police and Army troops of the 232 Brigade in the general area of THARAVIKULAM in THOPPIGALA on Sunday (19).
During the search, Army troops and Police recovered three dismantled paddle guns (ZPU-4) buried in the jungle area. The parts of the three weapons including drums with links had been greased and wrapped in polythene when they were unearthed.
In the meantime, troops in MAILAWATTUVAN area, AMPARA recovered one T-56 magazine, one hundred and twenty-three rounds of ammunition, four Self Loading Rifle (SLR) magazines, one claymore mine, 1 kg of C-4 explosives, one 81 mm mortar bomb and 120 mm mortar tool brush during Sunday (19).
