Following a generous sponsorship, provided by 'Thiyahie’ Charitable Trust', a social service voluntary organization operational in Jaffna, Batticaloa, Kurunegala, Trincomalee districts and in the hill country for social and educational development of low-income groups under the able chairmanship of Mr Vamadeva Thiyagendran, 51, 52 and 55 Division troops under the Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna coordinated and distributed 1000 dry ration packs among needy families in Kopay, Vartavilan, Araly, Meenachi, Karainagar, Thelippalei, Palely, Illakkadu, Urikkadu, Vidaththapalai, Kodikamam, Kovilakkanady, Allarai , Ellankulum, Katkovalam and Maradanderni areas on Saturday (04) under the guidance of Commander Security Forces Jaffna, Major General Jagath Kodituwakku .
Those 1000 relief packs, worth Rs 1 million in total were taken to their doorsteps by respective troops serving those areas before they were handed to needy general public in consultation with relevant Grama Niladari officials as per directions of the Commander Security Forces Jaffna and respective General Officers Commanding. It was meant to ease low-income families of their undergoing hardships due to prevailing COVID -19 pandemic impact in the Jaffna peninsula.
Major General Deepal Pussella, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 51 Division, Major General Mahinda Jayawardena, GOC, 55 Division, Brigadier Chandana Wickramasinghe, GOC, 52 Division, Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers of respective areas, Officers and Other Ranks and Grama Niladari officials joined this programme by adhering to health formalities.
